Summer is the best time to lose weight among all other seasons. The constant need to keep your body cool and hydrated make you crave more vegetables, fruits and water. And that make weight loss easier.

Here are 3 nutrition strategies that will help you achieve truly sustainable success.

1. Create healthy and balanced meals

Fill 1/2 of your plate with raw fruits and vegetables: Raw vegetables not only provide vitamins and minerals your body needs but also help clean out your digestive system. The best way to eat raw vegetables is in salads. Adding olive oil, lemon juice or vinegar, chopped garlic into salad bowls will bring more flavor and nutrition to your healthy meals.

Sprinkling a few seeds or some goji berries into salads is also a great way to enhance the salad’s flavor.

Fill 1/4 of your plate with whole grains and plant-based protein: Whole-grain foods such as  brown rice, millet, quinoa… are excellent sources of dietary fiber. Eating whole grains help you feel full longer and reduce your risk of becoming constipated.

Add some plant-based protein such as chickpeas, black beans or peanuts to your whole-grain dishes to reduce your carbohydrate intake without starving yourself.

Animal protein comprises 1/4 of your plate: Fish and skinless white meat poultry are best choices. Boiling, steaming and stir frying are three healthiest cooking methods for these animal-based foods.

2. Choose snack wisely

Potatoes chips, candy bars, pastries, cookies, cakes… are foods you need to avoid when trying to lose weight. These foods are usually low in nutrients but high in calories, saturated fat, sugars, or sodium.

Dairy products and wheat flour products should be eliminated from your menu because they slow down digestion and removal of toxins which prevent you from losing weight.

I know that it’s hard to remove those foods completely, especially when they are your favorite snacks. But try to eat them once or twice a month only.  Nuts, seeds and fresh fruits are healthy alternatives. Your taste will change over time and you will find out eating foods in their most raw and natural state is the best choice.

3. Best drinks for weight loss

Water is the best source of fluid for the body. Infused water, green juices, or smoothies (without added sugar or milk) are also delicious drink to cool you down. Green juices with bitter gourd and celery is excellent way to detoxify your body and support your weight loss process. Don’t let yourself get dehydrated because thirst can be confused with hunger and causes you to eat more than the body needs.

Beverages sold at convenience stores and supermarkets often contain food additives and added sugar which may contributes to chronic diseases like diabetes and cancer. So always check the facts on the Nutrition label and ingredient list carefully before buying beverages.
